A 74-page book, “Communicating on Climate Change,” based on an unprecedented series of dialogues involving top climate scientists and journalists, can be downloaded as a PDF file from The Metcalf Institute at the University of Rhode Island’s Graduate School of Oceanography. It is the product of a series of National Science Foundation and independent foundation-funded workshops involving climate scientists and news media representatives.

The six workshops (that transpired during more than four years) focused on communicating to the public about climate science findings and brought together a number of the nation’s most highly respected climate scientists and journalists, including those whose work has been published in Nature, Science, the BBC, The New York Times, The Associated Press, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, and Seattle Times. “Communicating on Climate Change” was written by several long-time environmental journalists and journalism educator Bud Ward, editor of The Yale Forum on Climate Change & The Media.

A PDF of the book—and an order form for the print version—is available online for no charge. When the print edition becomes available in December 2008, there will be no cost for the book but $8.00 will be charged for shipping and handling.
