Masha Gessen

Masha Gessen, a 2004 Nieman Fellow, is a Russian-American journalist, and author of “Ester and Ruzya: How My Grandmothers Survived Hitler’s War and Stalin’s Peace,” published in 2004. She worked as deputy editor for the independent magazine, Bolshoy Gorod.
