Claudia Meléndez Salinas is a staff writer at the Salinas bureau of The Monterey County Herald. An immigrant from Mexico, she has written about the Latino community for more than a decade at publications such as El Andar magazine, Nuevo Mundo, the San Jose Mercury News, and Mexico’s La Jornada. She was a 2008-2009 fellow at the Institute for Justice in Journalism at USC Annenberg School for Communications and is now a staff writer at the Monterey County Herald.
